Investment research: make the assumptions easy to challenge

Business area: Investment Research & Advisory
State the decision the research is intended to support. Separate observed facts, estimates and the author’s interpretation. For important numbers, preserve the original source, measurement period and definition so another reader can reproduce the comparison.
Choose the variables that could change the conclusion, such as customer retention, collection time or delivery cost. Present alternative scenarios and explain why they were selected. Include evidence that contradicts the preferred view and describe the information still missing.
End with the next questions to investigate and a date for review. A useful research note makes its limits visible and can be revised as evidence improves. It should not turn an illustrative scenario into a return promise or a personalized recommendation.
