Intellectual property: map the assets before a product launch

Business area: Intellectual Property Services
List the assets created or used in the project: names, logos, product appearance, drawings, photographs, software and confidential processes. Record who created each asset, which agreements apply and where the supporting files are kept.
WIPO explains that trademarks help distinguish a company’s goods or services and that protection has a territorial dimension. Before committing to a name, packaging run or market launch, ask an appropriate professional to assess searches, ownership and protection in the intended markets.
Keep an approval record for third-party materials and a disclosure plan for unpublished work. Review the register when suppliers, markets or designs change. Registration, licensing and dispute strategy should follow the specific asset and jurisdiction rather than a single template.
